Step [[I]] - Preparation of water gas by passing steam over hot white coke

Step [[II]] - Reduction of steam to hydrogen

CO+H_2+H_2O\ →\ CO_2+2H_2+\triangle

(b) Promoter Cr_2O_3 is used to increase the activity of catalysts.

(c) Ammoniacal cuprous chloride solution absorbs unreacted CO.
