in the laboratory preparation of hydrogen from zinc and dilute acid dilute nitric acid is not preferred as the reactant acid why?

Nitric acid (HNO3) is a strong oxidising agent. It oxidises H2 produced into H2O (water) and itself gets reduced to any of the nitrogen oxides (NO2, NO and N2O). Thus, hydrogen gas is not evolved.
