Given :- In the laying of a water pipeline of length 5 km, a contractor completed (6/15) km in the first stage and in the second stage, he constructed (2/10) km. What is the length of the remaining pipeline to be constructed ?

Solution :-

→ Total length of water pipeline = 5 km .

now,

→ Contractor constructed in first stage = (6/15) km.

then,

→ water pipeline left to be constructed = 5 - (6/15) = (15 * 5 - 6)/15 = (75 - 6) / 15 = (69/15) = (23/5) km .

now,

→ Contractor constructed in second stage = (2/10) = (1/5) km.

therefore,

→ water pipeline left to be constructed after second stage = (23/5) - (1/5) = (23 - 1)/5 = (22/5) = 4(2/5) km . (Ans.)

Hence, the length of the remaining pipeline to be constructed is 4(2/5) km .
