The percentage error in the measurement of density will be 11 %

In the measurement of the mass of a thin aluminium sheet, the percentage error is in mass 1%, in length 1%, in width 1% and in thickness 8%.

We have to find the percentage error in the measurement of density.

volume of aluminium sheet , v = lbh

and density of aluminium sheet , ρ = m/v = m/(lbh)

To find error,

formula of percentage error in density will be given by,

% error in ρ = % error in m + % error in l + % error in b + % error in h

  • % error in m = 1 %
  • % error in length, l = 1 %
  • % error in width, b = 1 %
  • % error in thickness, h = 8 %

∴ % error in ρ = 1 % + 1 % + 1% + 8% = 11%

Therefore the percentage error in the measurement of density will be 11 %.
