bassanio was a spendthrift was always spendin his money in the luxiries of life . he kept borrowing money from bassanio and still not given him his money back . at the time bassanio was asking for money because he had to win portia from belmont . he was incapable of going there without money so he gave an entire description of his plan so that antonio would lend him more money.
