Given : In the mixing tea , 1 kg in every 100kg is wasted .

To Find :   In what proportion must a dealer mix teas which cost him rs.24 and rs.18 per kg respectively so that the cost comes to rs.20 per kg

Solution:

Let say Tea mixed costing Rs 24 per kg  = 100x   kg

and Tea mixed costing   Rs 18  per kg  =     100    kg

Total tea  mixed = 100x + 100 = 100(x + 1) kg

Tea Water = (1/100)100(x + 1)  = x + 1  kg

Mixture Obtained = 100(x + 1) - (x + 1)  = 99(x + 1) kg

Cost of  100x   kg = 24 * 100x  = 2400x  Rs

Cost of 100 kg  = 18 * 100  = 1800  Rs

Total cost  = 2400x + 1800 Rs

Cost of mixture  99(x + 1) kg  = 99(x + 1) * 20  = 1980(x + 1) Rs

= 1980x  + 1980 Rs

Equate total cost

2400x + 1800 =  1980x  + 1980

=> 420x = 180

=> 42x = 18

=> 7x  = 3

=> x = 3/7

Ratio is 100x : 100

= x : 1

= 3 : 7

Hence in 3:7 Ratio tea must be mixed
