In the story of W.W.Jacobs, ’The Monkey’s Paw’, the Whites’ family members eagerly listened to Sergeant Major Morris because they wish to know about the miracles of the monkey’s paw, which grants three wishes to three possessors of it.
Three situations which show their curiosity are as follows:
- All three members of the family, i.e. Mr. White, Mrs. White and their son Herbert White leaned forward to listen to the Major.
- Hebert White took the paw in his hands and examined it with utmost care.
- Mr. White curiously inquired about the speciality of the paw by taking it in his hands from his son.
So, they were listening eagerly such that their light laughter jarred somewhat.
