Two persons X and Y start simultaneously from A and B and walk towards each other. They meet after 1/2 hour and continue to walk towards their destination. If X reaches 25 minutes after Y reached the destination, find the ratio of their speeds.

answer. X_______________|___________________Y
A C B

Let X's Speed= a km/h
Y's Speed= b km/h
after 1/2 hrs they meet at point C
So..AC= a/2 km (Distance= Speed*Time)
and CB= b/2 km (Distance= Speed*Time)
Now..X have to cover b/2 km distance to reach B
and Y have to cover a/2 km distance to reach A
Time taken By Y to reached at A = a/2b (Time= Distance (a/2)/ Speed (b))
According to question Time taken by X = 25 minutes + Time taken by Y
i.e. Time taken by X= 25/60 + (a/2b)= (6a+5b)/12b
Now again for X
Speed= Distance/Time
a= (b/2) / (6a+5b)/12b..........Equation (1)
By solving Equation (1) we get a:b = 2:3
