1. Across the period,the tendency to lose election decreases as more and more electrons attach to the atom but the shell does not increases.. So the nuclear pull from the nucleus containing protons increases and it becomes difficult for for the atom to lose electrons...


2. Down the group,the tendency to lose electrons increases as new shell gets added at each as we go down the group number and it becomes easier for the nucleus to lose the electrons in its outermost shell..
