in the past hunting as a sport and how did it become a greed then?

people in the past made hunting a sport, but later on the scenario changed completely. People tried to compete each other in hunting.

if a person hunts 5 deers the other person has a motive to compete it beat his score. which lead to greed of many people and many species to extinction.
