Answer: In the past many materials such as papyrus, clay, wax, potsherds etc were used for writing.

Explanation:

In the mere past, materials like potsherds, unbaked bricks, the bark of birch trees, bhograpatra and copper plates were used for writing. Clay, the egyptian papyrus, slate, wood and parchment (prepared animal skins) were also used for writing. Building materials on which writings were created were not included. In Mesopotamia where writing was first developed, clay is an easily available commodity. It became the writing material of the temple scribes.

The famous egyptian papyrus is an aquatic plant which provides the structure of papyrus.
