In the picture, the big triangle is equilateral and has area 9. The lines are parallel to the
triangle’s sides and divide the sides into three equal parts. What is the area of the shaded part?

The figure is of a equilateral triangle.

Area of this triangle = ( 3 / 4 ) × 81 square units = 35.07 square units approx.

Each side is the triangle is divided into three parts.

Length of each side of the miniature triangle = 3 units.

Now These are equilateral Triangles each.

Their total area = (3 / 4 ) × 9 × 3 squares units = 11.69 square units approx.

Area of shaded portion = 35.07 - 11.69 = 23.38 square units approx.
