In the poem named ‘Invictus’, the poet has described human sufferings and about fighting the same. The poet had suffered his hardships bravely. He had tubercular arthritis at very young age of 12. Due to this, he was in constant pain and discomfort. He wrote this poem while he was in hospital.  

He himself saved his right leg by saying no to a surgery. His sufferings and personal experience of death like situation enabled him of writing one of the great poems.
