The Night of the Scorpion by Nissim Ezeikal is a poem which focuses on the episode from the life of an Indian family.
The theme of the poem "The Night of the Scorpion" is the effort of the father and the peasants to save the mother from the effect of the poison of scorpion.
To relieve the pain of the mother, the father was earnestly trying some or the other way. Nothing worked to relieve the pain as he tried the antidote and remedies against the scorpion bite. Therefore, he called the holy man to curse the mother's pain. Also to kill the effect of the poison he poured the paraffin oil and lit the flame on the sting.
Whereas, the villagers sat in hope without any scientific reaction. Rather they gave their religious, superstitious and philosophical interpretations. The pain that mother was going through, villagers believed it to be her previous birth sins. The villagers believed that the poison would purify her soul and flesh.
