In the poem 'night of the scorpion' what difference do you find between the attitude of the poet's father and the other village?

Poet's father was a rationalist. But when he saw her wife in serious condition , he tried every curse and blessings. So the difference is that even though poet's father believe in rationality, he tries various religious ways also to cure her wife.
