In the poem 'snake' the poet says he has something to expiate as he feeels he has done a wrong thing by throwing a wooden log at the moving snake. He believes that he has done a sinful act and now has to pay for it.He is also feeling very guilty.

hey mate..!!
umm I think it's expiate..
your answer goes like this..
the writer is feeling guilty about his act of throwing the wooden log on the beautiful and harmless creature without any mistake of his.. the snake was simply drinking water from a trough without causing any harm to the writer but still he hit the snake for the sake of his inner voice of culture and education.. that's why the writer says I have something to expiate.. ☺
hope it helps.. ☺☺
