The poet in poem Snake he has something to expiate because he hit the snake with a log while the snake came to drink water peacefully at his trough. He regrets his act and wants to make amends.

Actually, the question should have 'expiate' and not 'expatiate'. These two words have entirely different meanings.

as he had misbehave with snake when snake was drinking the water the poet had thrown a log on Snake so he regret himself and to express his feelings he had said I have something to expatiate
