The post regrets what he's done and lost his chance to know one of the Lord's of life and he feels he needs to make amends for the worthless act he did, that is throwing the log and sending him back to the underworld, never to see him again.

In poem snake, the poet says that he has something to expiate bcs, he feel regreted for his deed that he hurted the snake which deserved respect by thowing a log over it. Realizing that it was the voice of education which persuaded him to do so, he thinks of making an alteration in the educational values. Hence it is education that he has to expiate
