The black man wants to take revenge from the white man because he feels that the British people had ruled on us and we were the slaves that time but this is the time to take revenge because if he will not offer his stick he thinks that the white man will suffer but he don't even thought that he will die along with him.

Answer:
Explanation:
In the poem "Cold with" the poet has clearly visualised the scenario of each and every characters' case and their behaviour.
In this particular stanza the the black man's face bespoke of revenge and his heart throbbed on the rhythm of the revenge.
He did not want to give his log to the dying fire to spite the white or to harm the white which clearly denoted the racial prejudices practice d by the black man in the form of revenge. He kept his log back because the woman was a misanthrope and she also practiced racial discrimination which was on of the social ills practiced in the society
So, the black man bespoke of revenge and held his log back in anger to spite the white .
