I completely agree with the statement in question that 'The Professor' revolves around the theme of the defeat of academic excellence on the one hand and the triumph of commercial consideration on the other. The writer mocks not only the shallow thinking of the professor but also the language used. A professor is expected to maintain sophistication as well as excellence in his subject matter. The reader is bound to either laugh at the points he wants to discuss with his student or feel disappointed at his caliber. It portrays the truth in Shakespeare's statement 'Water, water everywhere, not a single drop to drink.' Hence, the defeat of very purpose of education and decline of academic excellence. Additionally, it is also true that the situation has been a result of the commercialization of education. The education has lost its very purpose of satisfying the hunger of scholars for knowledge. Rather, it has become a puppet in the hands of so-called educationists who consider it as a money minting opportunity. Education, today, has become a synonym for degrees and high ranks only, notwithstanding the real essence of education.
