Answer :-

In the poem Job and lke were the executioners. [ It is given in the poem in 4th stanza, second line ]

They were called so because the meaning of executioners is the people who kill others. Here, the woodcutters are called executioners because they cut trees. Here, cutting is considered as killing.

Job and Nike are termed as the executioners .

They were called so because they were responsible for executing tree .

Actually they had cut a 200 year tree with an axe.

A tree is also a living thing .

Hence this was an execution .

Thus Job and Nike were called as executioners .
