in the present age, where one is asked to rely on ones self for them to survive, is there still a relevance in trying to understand the cultural background of another person? why? or why not?​

No because we all are humans and inside us there is a feeling of goodness and that's why we are helping people. So there is no need to understand. This was the answer according to me.
