In the purification of copper, a thick block of impure copper metal is made anode, and it is connected to the positive terminal of battery. So, anode is connected to the positive terminal. This is because on passing electricity impure copper atoms of anode lose two electrons each to anode and form copper form copper ions, cu^2, which go into the solution. As:-
Cu^2+ - 2e-> Cu^2+
