${b}^{2} - 4ac$

is a factor which is used in quadratic equation to get the values except the value of x

For example :-

${x}^{2} + px + 4$

we know,

${ax}^{2} + {b}^{2} + c = 0$

where,

$a = 1$

$b = p$

$c = 4$

${b}^{2} - 4ac = 0$

${p}^{2} - 4.1.4 = 0$

${p}^{2} = 16 \\ p = \sqrt{16} \\p = 4$
