In the question the final volume is 20 litres and the initial volume is 60 litres then while applying the formula why are we taking
log 60/20?

here log (v2/v1) = log20/60 = log(1/3) = -0.477

and the formula would be , w = -2.303nRT log (1/3)

                                          or,  w = -2.303×3×8.314× T×(-0.477)

                                          or, w  = 27.399 T

                                          or, 8.50×10^3 = 27.400 T

                                          or, T     ≈ 310 K = (310 - 273) °C = 37°C

when the gas expand the formula is w = nRTln v2/v1

and for the gas compressed the formula is w = -nRTln v2/v1
