Answer:

Oxidising agent is H2O2

Reducing agent is PbS

Explanation:

In the reaction given, lead sulphide reacts with hydrogen peroxide to give lead sulphate and water. On analysing the reaction in terms of electron transfer, we can see that the sulphur atom, from -2 oxidation state changes to +6 oxidation state, showing that it has undergone oxidation, whereas the oxygen atom of hydrogen peroxide has undergone reduction from -1 to -2 oxidation state. Hence it is a redox reaction.

Now , the substances that are oxidized in the reaction are called 'Reducing Agents' as they donate their electrons for reduction and support reduction of the other compound. The vice versa happens in case of 'Oxidising Agents', as these compounds accept electron from the other compound, for getting the other compound oxidised.

Hence , PbS is the reducing agent here and H2O2 is the oxidising agent .

why only Sulphur's and oxygen's oxidation state to be checked? how to identify of which element's oxidation state is to be checked?
