HCl + NaOH  NaCl + H2O

So number of moles of water formed = 0.1

Number of moles of acid used = Number of moles of alkali

= C x V (in litres) = 1 x 0.1 = 0.1

Use proportion to find the amount of heat given out when 1 mole

of water is formed.

0.1 mole  -5.18 kJ

So 1 mole  1/0.1 x –5.18 = -51.8 kJ mol-1
