In the recent electoral polls, 15% of the voter turnout were under the age of 30 and were females. if 50% of the voter turnout under the age of 30 were not females, what percent of the voter turnout under the age of 30?

The question is not that tough but a bit tricky. You have to take proper assumptions and use the derived values to get the result.


So, let us begin with assuming the total no of people under 30 who have voted = A


and also no of voters who were below the age of 30 = B


Acc to question it is said that 50% of the voter turnout under the age of 30 were not females, that means (100 - 50)% were females and below the age 30.


i.e.female voters under 30 = 50% of B = B/2


Also it has been said that 15% of the voter turnout were under the age of 30 and were females i.e. 15% of A = 3A/20


Logically, B/2 = 3A/20


or, we get B/A = 3/10 or 30/100


Therefore we can write it as B = 30A/100 which is nothing but 30% of total votes.(Ans)
