In the rutherford experiment, only about 1 in 20000 positively charged particles was repelled. Explain this observation

By this observation Rutherford predicted that there is a very small size of positive particle present in the middle of an atom which can repel the +alpha particles, this led to the discovery of nucleus.

RUTHERFORD EXPERIMENT

THE FAMOUS GOLD FOIL EXPERIMENT

1)IT WAS DONE TO IDENTIFY THE STRUCTURE OF AN ATOM ABD IDENTIFY EFFECT OF ALPHA PARTICLES ON ATOM.

2)RUTHERFORD TOOK A THIN PLATE OF GOLD FOIL FOR EXPERIMENT BECAUSE HE NEEDED VERY THIN FOIL AND AG GOLD IS VERY MALLAEABLE IT WAS MADE VERY THIN AS REQUIRED.

3)THEN HE TOOK ALPHA PARTICLES AND BOMBARDED THEM ON THE GOLD FOIL .

HE GOT FOLLOWING OBSERVATIONS===

1)MOST OF ALPHA PARTICLES PASSED THOUGH IT WITHOUT ANY DEFLECTION.

2)SOME GOT DEFLECTED BY SMALL ANGLES.

3)ONE OF 100000 GOT DEFLECTED IN LARGER ANGLES i.e BOUNCED BACK.

SO,HE TOLD THAT=

1) MOST OF THE SPACE IN ATOM IS EMPTY.

2)IT CONTAINS A VERY MASSIVE POSITIVELY CHARGED CENTRE WHICH HE NAMED NUCLEAS.
