Here the given series is

14 , 29, 20, 25, 26, 21, 32, x

Now we rearrange it as below :

14 , 29, 20, 25, 26, 21, 32, x

There are two arithmetic progression

1st progression is formed by taking the terms in odd position : 14 , 20 , 26 , 32 ,

2nd progression is formed by taking the terms in even position ( Bold numbers ) :

29 , 25 , 21 , x

In order to find the value of x we take into consideration the 2nd progression

29 , 25 , 21 , x

For 2nd progression

First term = 29

Common Difference = 25 - 29 = - 4

x = Fourth term

= 29 + ( 3 × - 4 )

= 29 - 12

 = 17
