In the similar triangles, ΔABC and ΔDEF, () () = 3/ 4 . If the median AL = 6 cm, then find the median DM of Δ DEF.

The ratio of the corresponding sides of Δ ABC and Δ DEF is 3 : 4

Hence the ratio of the medians will be 3 : 4 [ property of similar Δs ]

So:

AL : DM = 3 : 4

==> 6 cm : DM = 3 : 4

==> DM : 6 = 4 : 3 [ Invertendo ]

==> DM = 4/3 × 6 cm

==> DM = 4 × 2 cm

==> DM = 8 cm

The median of DM is 8 cm
