In the 'snake' poem , why does the poet say "i have something to expatiate." ?

It is because it throw logg on The snake to kill .

The poet has something to expatiate means he has something to repent on....so as he is ashamed of his vulgar act of throwing the log on snake.....he is repenting on it.........
