In the soap micelles (a) the ionic end of soap is on the surface of the cluster while the carbon chain is in the interior of the cluster.
Explanation:
- Soap is formed in a process called saponification. It takes place between vegetable oil and potassium hydroxide.
- The characteristics of soap include hardness, cleansing, lather, conditioner and fragrance.
- The molecule in soap has two ends which are Hydrophilic end and Hydrophobic end.
- The Hydrophilic end loves water whereas Hydrophobic end repulses water.
- When soap is mixed with water, it forms micelles. It is spherical in shape.
- In micelles, the hydrophilic end (ionic end) point outside where as hydrophobic end (carbon chain) points inside. Dirt is trapped with the hydrophobic end inside micelles.
