The rocks that we find in abundance in Southern India are igneous rocks or magmatic rocks.

  • Igneous rocks are formed when lava or magma cools and solidifies after a volcanic eruption.
  • Igneous rocks can be classified based on various factors such as chemical composition, texture, geometry, etc.
  • The minerals mainly present in igneous rocks are quartz, feldspars, micas, etc.
  • Some accessory minerals ( minerals in trace amounts) are also found in them. Classification can be made based on these composition.
