I disagree: if the $70 prices is not an average price, which it is not, since the question DOES NOT state that it is, then you CANNOT infer that 4 x $100 is the average price of the 4. This answer is SOOO wrong! I cannot believe that 42 people liked this and didn't see that it was incorrect.
The question states that "four different stocks have an average price of $100 per stock. ". That is how we inferred that the average is $100 and therefore the sum of the 4 sums is 4 x 100 = $400.
