Answer:
In Chekhov's “A Day in the Country,”the rain represents sadness/depression. The little girl Fyokla and her brother Danilka seemed to be unwanted children. No one tries to help Fyokla when she is trying to find Terenty. When she finally does find Terenty, the rain begins right before the get to Danilka.
Have a great day
