Two reasons are there for helen to appear in bits and pieces

1. Helen thought that john was too busy in thinking for a story. To grasp his attention towards her she appears in bits and pieces.

2. Helen by virtue is actually a ghost and maybe she would have thought that if she appears in bits and pieces he may get feared and might stop the usage of ouija board .
