It is clear that Amma and all three of her children are acutely aware of their role and duty towards the country. We are told at the beginning of the story that their father has been arrested by the British, and from their words and actions it becomes clear that Amma and the children see the Independence Movement as important, and themselves as a part of it. Right from the start, we see Babu and Manju eagerly standing in the rain, excited to watch the peaceful demonstration of college students which their older brother is a part of. Later, when Mohan’s friends bring a cyclostyling machine into the house, no one questions or objects this. The younger children eagerly play their roles in keeping watch. They are all aware of the danger but not one of them appears to hesitate or question what needs to be done. Amma is also aware of her children’s activities and supports them. She comes out and speaks to Patil. It was her decision to trust him and send the machine away in his care.
Thus, it is clear that all members of the household consider themselves a part of the movement.
Hope this helps :)
