They both were best friends from childhood. They started money - lending business.When either of them were absent the other looked after the household.
This happened when jumman went to Haj and Alagu had to go abroad on business. Jumman was esteemed for his learning and Alagu for his wealth.
When Jumman was in trouble bcoz of his old maternal aunt (i. e) she wanted a monthly maintaince from him (she wanted a separate kitchen for herself) bcoz she was illtreated by jumman's wife (kariman) she was not serving proper food to her and was insulting her so, the old maternal aunt took this case to panchayat so Alagu was nominated for the head panch so his decision was that jumman should pay monthly maintaince to the aunt so jumman was angry with Alagu so they didn't talk with each other
When Alagu was in trouble relating to the payment of bullock from the cart driver so this case also went to panchayat so jumman was elected fpas head panch Alagu was scared bcoz he know that jumman would take revenge .But hearing all this he told that Alagu should not pay any price to the cart driver bcoz it was the fault of the cart driver bcoz he ill treated the bullock (I. e Alagu had a pair of bullocks one he lend it to the cart driver) so they both became friends forgetting all the past
