In the cell the longer line represents the positive end of the cell and the smaller terminal represents the negative end of the cell.

EXPLANATION:

The symbol of equipment is used while drawing the circuit diagram. Each of the equipment have different symbols. A circuit is complete when the wire connected from the positive end to the resistance and again back to the negative terminal of the cell.
