Explanation:

M1 = 2 kg

M2 = 4 kg

M3 = 6 kg

M2 and M3 are attached aside of the pulley and moving downward. Whereas M1 is moving against gravity by acceleration 'a'

Hence acceleration can be given by

a \:  =  \frac{(m2 \:  +  \: m3) - m1}{m1 \:  + m2 \:  + m3} g \\  \\ a \:  = \frac{4 + 6 - 2}{2 + 4 + 6}  \times 10 \\  \\ a =  \:  \frac{8 \times 10}{14} \\

Acceleration = 5.85 m/s^2

Tension in string (2)

T2 = m3g = 60 N

T1 = T2 + m2g

T1 = 60 + 40 = 100 N
