Step-by-step explanation:

AD/DB=AE/EC

3cm/4.5cm=20cm/CE

3cmCE=4.5cm×20cm

CE=90/3

CE=30cm

Given :  in  ΔABC , D and E are points on sides AB and AC respectively such that de is parallel to bc

AE = 20cm, AD = 3 cm and BD = 4.5 cm,

To Find   CE.

Solution:

Thales's theorem :

If a straight line is drawn parallel to a side of a triangle, then it divides the other two sides proportionately.

Its also called BPT : Basic proportionality theorem.

DE || BC

Using thales theorem  ( BPT)

AD/BD = AE/CE

=> 3/4.5  = 20/CE

=> 3CE = 90

=> CE = 30 cm
