  3. AB=½AB or AE=½AC.

In ∆ADE and ∆ABC.

Angle B=angle D

so, ∆ADE~∆ABC

ar(∆ADE)/ar(∆ABC)=(AD/AB)²

=> (AD/2AD)²= (1/2)²=1/4.
