In the winter carnival, your class is holding a
raffle to raise money for some good cause. The
raffle tickets are 10 each and the winner will
receive a cash prize. The class is selling 100
tickets.
(a) If you buy a ticket, what is your probability
of winning?
(b) You and 9 other people plan to put in a
10 each for raffle tickets as a group. Then,
if one person wins, the cash prize will be
equally split among the group. If you go on
in this plan what is the probability that you
will win something?

Answer: (a) 1%

(b) 9.57%

Step-by-step explanation: (a) You have a 1 in 100 chance.

(b)Your chances of not winning are 99 out of 100. Thus,

(\frac{99}{100})^{10} = 0.9043, your chances of winning are 9.57%
