Wheat is a Kharif crop and thus sown in winters whereas rice is Rabi crop and transplanted in the fields during rainy season.

Wheat is a rabi crop grown in winter season. It does not require too much water for its growth. If wheat is sown in kharif season, the crop may wilt as it cannot tolerate excess water. The field may get waterlogged, seed germination might not occur and it can even damage the crop.
