This sentence is taken from the poem "Friends and Flatterers" by William Shakespeare.

The poem brings out the characteristics of false friends. False friends are the flatterers, who praise someone just for their personal advantage.

When a person spends his money for his false friends, they will praise him saying that, "only kings can possess such qualities and it is a pity that he is not a king".
