I think yes, it can be important to learn history. People say, we learn from our mistakes, so if we know our past, we can build a better future by dodging the disadvantages of the fails.

I would mention the cases of flight accidents. The airplanes have become safer by every disasters because the fails of the technology were discovered and fixed. Or we can look at the courses of military schools. In these institutes the students learn about strategies from the past, even from wars of the ancient Greeks, so they can use the well-tried project of the ancestors.

In biology sometimes we study about old techniques because we can understand the mechanisms of some happening in living forms by these even if automatized programs exist.

So generally in my opinion we should be better than the past by learning from it.
