In this formula of potash alum, why dots are used for separating these formulas? What is the use of those two dots? One dot between K2SO4 and Al2(SO4)3 and another dot between Al2(SO4)3 and 24H2O. Please answer fast !!! It's urgent.

the dots just mean that they are just linked with each other and can be separated through certain methods like MgSO4•7H2O can be separated by heating from water and it only means that they are just forming a complex.....

pinakimandal53: How they are linked with each other?
deepak144: no its somewhat like multiplication just these dot represent they are just linked
deepak144: linked through bonds
pinakimandal53: Which bonds?
deepak144: sometimes its hydrogen bond of water and sometimes these are bonds of complexes
pinakimandal53: Actually you know one thing? I am beginner in learning about the elements and the compounds. I saw the formula for potash alum in my Science book and it was like this: K2SO4.Al2(SO4)3.24H2O . So, I just can't understand the presence of the dots.
pinakimandal53: The reason of the presence of the dots.
deepak144: thats what i realised earlier actually I'm a 12th qualified student and i know what you really can't get......
deepak144: thats what i explain you earlier you will clear your concept in upcoming classes
pinakimandal53: Okay. I think that I will clear this concept in my upcoming classes. Thank you for your advice.
