Mrs. Bush bought a dozen eggs at the store, but when she got home she discovered that 1/3 of the eggs were broken, so she threw them away. She used 1/6 of the dozen in a recipe. What fraction of eggs were left? You do NOT need to label your answer.

total no. of eggs you had was 15

out of this, 1) you broke 5 eggs, so subtract it with the total no of eggs

=> 15 - 5 = 10 ( remaining eggs (i) )

2) you ate 5 eggs, which means its no longer there, so subtract it from the remaining eggs (i)

=> 10 - 5 = 5 ( remaining eggs (ii) )

3) you cooked 5 eggs, which means you still have it in your hands, so add it to the remaining eggs (ii)

=> 5 + 5 = 10 ( this is the total no. of eggs remaining )

HENCE THE TOTAL NO. OF EGGS LEFT ARE 10 !
