Formation of Lead Nitrate

Both lead and nitrate show variable valency

It is to be noted that in this case,

  • Lead has a combining capacity + 2

  • Nitrate has a combining capacity- 1

Don't let the signs confuse you,

They just signify whether the atoms donate or accept electrons.

  • + implies they donate electrons and form cations which are positively charged

  • - implies they accept electrons and forms anions which are negatively charged

Here,

Pb has a valency + 2 and NO3 has - 1 as its valency

On criss crossing,it forms

\sf{{Pb}_{}{(N{O}_{3})}_{2}}

This can be interpreted as follows :

If one atoms of lead combine with two atoms of the complex (Nitrate)
